  • Thermal and hydrodynamic model of a flat plate heat pipe with single and multiple line heaters

    ABSTRACT

    Using the method of Fourier expansion, an analytical model is presented to study the thermal and hydrodynamic performance of a flat plate heat pipe subjected to single and multiple line heaters. By changing the location of the line heaters, various pressure drop and velocity fields for liquid flow inside the wick structure and different temperature distributions inside the wall of the flat plate heat pipe are calculated and compared in order to find the optimum location. From a thermal point of view, the optimum performance is achieved when the maximum temperature of the wall is the lowest possible. From a hydrodynamic point of view, the optimum performance is accomplished when minimum pressure drop is attained across the wick structure of the heat pipe.
